Tips for relieving eczema in children

Does your little one suffer from eczema or food intolerances?

Eczema is most likely a sign that your child has a leaky gut. In this post, Naturopath Morgan Helmling shares some tips on how to improve eczema in kids, and get them some much needed relief.

Leaky gut is a condition in which the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, causing undigested food particles, toxic waste products and bacteria to “leak” through the intestines and flood the blood stream.

This creates an allergic reaction, which can show up as eczema in adults and children.

Leaky Gut is the reason a lot of adults and children react to certain foods, when the food itself is not actually the underlying issue.

If you can fix the gut, most of the time the foods can then be tolerated again.

Because leaky gut equals leaky skin!

Some important nutrients which can help relieve eczema in Children are;

PROBIOTICS – are so important in repairing and protecting the gut. However not all probiotic strains have the same action. You want to get a probiotic that contains Lactobacillius Rhamnosis GG otherwise known as LGG.

VITAMIN C – acts as a natural anti-histamine and heals wounds quickly; broccoli, berries are great sources of vitamin C

ZINC – also improves wound healing but also helps repair the gut lining so food particles don’t travel into the blood stream. Zinc is very important to strengthen the immune system; pumpkin and seseme seeds are high in zinc, so are chickpeas and spinach

VITAMIN A – helps repair the gut lining and reduces inflammation in the body. Vitamin A helps to repair the skin and prevent dryness; foods that contain Vitamin A are carrots, apricots, eggs, butter

VITAMIN D – prevent skin infections that come along with eczema, it reduces in inflammation in the body and regulate the immune response thus reacting less to certain foods; sunshine is best to get some vitamin D however there are foods that contain foods as well; butter, eggs, fish

GLUTAMINE- heals the damaged lining of the gut and reduces inflammation significantly; foods high in glutamine are beef, chicken, fish, eggs.

FISH or FISH OIL – fish 3 times per week or a good quality fish oil, (not the cheap brands,) play a huge role in reducing the inflammation caused by gut irritation. It helps repair skin, leaving it looking smooth and soft.

This is what I recommend when seeing kids in clinic that come in with eczema or food intolerance issues and are seeking some relief.

I hope some of these tips can help you reduce the eczema in your little ones. If you’d like to make an appointment to discuss eczema relief tips for your child, make an appointment and I investigate and research to get you the answers to your health concerns.
